Trends, trends, trends. Whether you’re for or against, you need to know what’s going down in order to make a clear stand. And right now, in terms of wedding music, the two biggest trends going are close to being opposites so it’s not hard to figure out which side you’re leaning towards.
Wedding Music Trend #1 – Classical Ensembles
The Downton Abbey wedding in season 3 has exerted a clear influence on real weddings since then. Live ensembles were the only wedding options at that “time,” and it’s hard to deny that they lend a certain air of sophistication to any event. I love me some classical music (in fact, I’m listening to Haydn as I write this), so I admit this is a tempting option. But damn it’s expensive, and this girl is always on a budget.
Wedding Music Trend #2 – Minimalism and DIY
This year there has been an explosion of interest in “minimal” living. It’s a philosophy (or I guess you could call it a lifestyle choice) that favors minimalism and simplicity over materialism and consumerism. It can influence all aspects of life — business, daily living, relationships, parenting, shopping and of course weddings. Because the aim is to keep things simple and be resourceful with what you’ve got, it fits perfectly with DIY. I’m definitely not saying that the trend is towards a minimal style of music, but I am saying that couples are more inclined to do what feels right to them and take a more relaxed approach to the music. Whether this means DJing your own wedding or letting your wedding party and guests be more involved in the music selection is up to you! The point is that what we do isn’t just about reaching goals, but also the process of getting there. Enjoy planning your wedding rather than letting it be a huge source of stress… Imagine that!
